Description: Luang Prabang is the ancient capital of the Lane Zang (million elephants) Kingdom, dating back to the middle of the 12th Centery. It sits at the intersection of the Mekong and Khan Rivers and is surrounded by green hills. In the glare of the mid-day sun, the city glows from the rays of its many golden temple. A climb to the top of the Phousi Hill offers astonishing views over the vast and mostly uninhabited territories of northern Thailand and Laos, to experience sunset at Phousi Hill touches the soul. Luang Prabang is also home to the Palace of King Sivavang Vong, the last ruling king (1904 – 1909), and the Palace Museum houses some magnificent artifacts from his reign. Life in Luang Prabang is slow and gentle, and as you walk down the main boulevard, you don’t hacve to worry about cars, but rather, be sure to watch out for water buffalo and bicycles.
Itinerary:
Day 01: Transfer to Chiang Khong. (BKK OPERATOR) After passing Thai Immigration cross (MY PART) the Mekong River in a local boat to the Lao Immigration chacks point. Luggage will be transferred directly to the Luang Say Cruise boat. Visas will be processed upon arrival. After immigration and customs formalities to the Luang Say Cruise boat. Cruise on the Mekong River at a leisurely pace. Stops will be made along the way. Dinner and overnight at Luang Say Lodge. (B/L/D)
Day 02: Depart for Luang Prabang. Lunch on board. Aftenoon visit of the Pac Ou Caves. Upon arrival in Luang Prabang transfer to the Grand Luang Prabang. Dinner and overnight at the Grand Luang Prabang. (B/L/D)
Day 03: Luong Prabang In Luang Prabang it’s worth rising early to see long rows of Buddhist monks beggng for alms. After breakfast, we begin our walking tour in this World Heritage City. Cross the river by local boat and visit several ancient temples, Wat Long Koun and Chom Peth. From the latter you have a spectacular view over the Mekong River and Luang Prabang. Continue walking to the Lao villages Ban Chieng Men and Ban Chan, a pottery village. Return to Luang Prabang by local boat. Lunch in a local restaurant. After lunch, continue your walking tour of this city including Wat Xieng Thong ( Golden City temple), Wat Mai ( new temple ), ending with a sunset view from Phousi Hill. Return to the hotel. Dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight at the Grand Luang Prabang. (B/L/D)
Day 04: Drive to the Kuangsi waterfall. Visit the Khmu/Hmong village Ban Long Lao and other local villages along the way to the falls. Today it’s possible to make a walk of about three hours from Bang Long Lao to the falls. Drive back to Luang Prabang. The afternoon is free to explore Luang Prabang or relax. Enjoy an evening baci ceremony, where gentle villagers offer their foreign visitors tiding of good luck for their travels. The baci ceremony culminates in our well-wishers enveloping us with kindness and smiles as they gentle tie the cords of good luck and friendship around our wrists. Following a gourmet Luang Prabang style dinner, we’ll watch a traditional Lao dance performance. Overnight at Grand Luang Prabang. (B/L/D)
Day 05: Transfer to the airport for flight to Vientiane. Fly Luang Prabang to Vientiane Meet upon arrival and transfer to the five star Settha Palace Hotel, a beautifully restored colonial building. Lunch at Kua Lao restaurant. After lunch embark on a city tour. Visit the Pratuxai, the Laotian version of the Arc de Triomphe, That Luang the most famous stupa of the country as well as Wat Sisaket, one of the most impressive temples of the Laotian capital and Ho Pha Keo, the original home of the Emerald Buddha. Time permitting, we wvisit Carol Cassidy’s textile studio. Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight at Settha Palace Hote. (B/L/D)
Day 06: Transfer to the airport. Fly from Vientiane to Phnom Penh. End of services.
